Dior dress: yeah… won’t be able to afford that this lifetime.
Dior handbag: errr… still no, but will try adding it to my birthday list anyway.
Dior lipstick: ahhh… now you’re talking!

And that, my friends, is the appeal of designer brands with cosmetics lines!

Now happily sitting on the “treat yourself but without entering your overdraft” scale of things is the Dior Prestige Treatment at The Landmark Mandarin Oriental Hong Kong’s Oriental Spa – a new indulgent way to get a little bit of designer luxe in your life.

Limewood restaurant review – life’s a beach!

limewood hong kong fish tacos

Lots of countries get beachside dining down pat – freshly cooked fish and chips in the UK, summery tropical seafood in Thailand, mouth-watering barbequed meat in the States – but until recently, Hong Kong was not one of them. Beach eats here often consisted of sad little shacks selling instant noodles and curry fish balls, which don’t get me wrong, I do love… but which just don’t feel quite right when the sun is shining and the waves are calling your name.

However, as businesses have woken up to quite how lucrative sun-dazed hungry diners might be, the quality of beachside restaurants in Hong Kong has crept up – and Limewood in Repulse Bay’s new The Pulse complex is definitely at the crest of the tidal wave.

The Peninsula Spa Ultimate Aesthetic Facial Treatment by Margy’s review – the best facial in Hong Kong?

Margy's Monte Carlo Peninsula Hong Kong

Say the word Monaco and what do you think of? Glitz, glamour, Princess Grace and celeb tax haven are probably the things that spring to mind… world-class facial treatments, not so much. But forget about Lewis Hamilton’s tax-dodging antics for a minute – because The Peninsula Hong Kong’s latest range of Margy’s Monte Carlo spa treatments is set to re-define all your current Monaco word associations.

Unlike every other famous Monegasque (and yes, I totally had to look up what to call someone from Monaco), Margie Lombard is not a member of the principality’s royal family but a renowned beauty expert who has treated some of the world’s most famous women, including Claudia Schiffer, Princess Charlene and errr… Shirley Bassey. Many clients have even been known to fly to Monaco especially for her treatments, but now those in Asia have a much more convenient destination to head to instead – The Peninsula Spa, where Lombard’s signature facials are now exclusively available in Hong Kong.

The Ultimate Aesthetic Facial Treatment by Margy’s Peninsula Hong Kong

Without getting too bogged down in science, Lombard has made it her business to understand skin and the main reasons it degrades over time – so she can create products and treatments that specifically target these exact causes. There are four Lombard facials available at The Peninsula Spa but the mother of them all is The Ultimate Aesthetic Facial Treatment by Margy’s, which uses ultrasonic waves and controlled warmth to stimulate the growth of new collagen, contour the skin and reduce wrinkles. Combined with her line of highly effective, Swiss-made skincare products (Lombard’s range was one of the first to utilise collagen and hyaluronic acid), and you have all the ingredients for stunning skin.

Singin’ In The Rain @ Hong Kong Academy of Performing Arts review

Singin In The Rain Hong Kong

You know a musical is made out of special stuff when it turns a source of misery – namely, a thundering relentless downpour – into something of total undiluted delight.

Singin’ In The Rain is one of my favourite films, let alone musicals, of all time, and it’s with some trepidation that I approach any stage adaptation of MGM’s glorious Gene Kelly vehicle. So I’m happy to report that Lunchbox Productions’ version of the Chichester Theatre revival, which plays in Hong Kong until 25 October 2015, is a dazzling shot of endorphins straight to the heart.

Christian Louboutin Scarabee II nail polish review

louboutin scarabee II

I love blue nail polish at the best of times… but there’s something about it that just seems so much better in summer. So with the first hints of an autumn breeze swirling through the air here in Hong Kong, I thought I’d better bust out Christian Louboutin Scarabee II before our long hot summer was over for yet an other year (*insert lament about how quickly time flies here*).

Scarabee II is another colour from the limited edition Christian Louboutin Scarabee Collection of gorgeous duochrome polishes inspired by the iridescent shell of an Egyptian scarab beetle – and it might just be the most instantly striking of the three. Or it might just be that I’m an eternal sucker for blue nail polish!

La Soirée @ Hong Kong Academy of Performing Arts review

La Soiree David O'Mer Bath Boy

I sit typing this review slumped in bed… and if it’s a good day, slumped in bed is exactly where I’ll stay!

However, a night at La Soirée – the Olivier award-winning, Edinburgh Fringe alumni of a show that’s in Hong Kong for just eight performances – was a reminder of just how amazing the human body can be… you know, when it’s not slumped in bed watching old episodes of The Apprentice and stuffing Oreos into its mouth.

A raucous blend of circus and cabaret, the show features around a dozen acts all with different specialities, from comedy to contortionism and just about everything in-between – with the overall effect being something like the Royal Variety Show as presided over by Graham Norton (now there’s a TV show idea!).

Making a splash – the best hotel pool package in Hong Kong

Conrad Hong Kong Swimming Pool

You know those deals that are so good you want to keep them a secret? That seem far too good to be true that you have to pinch yourself to be sure you didn’t just make it all up? That if you tell too many people, someone higher up might twig and take the deal away? Well, this post is about one of those.

The Conrad Hong Kong’s Weekend By The Pool package is an alarmingly good deal. So much so that when I found out about it, I actually did a double take and figured there was a missing number in the price. Happily, this wasn’t the case (or they haven’t realised… yet), easily making this one of the best hotel pool packages in Hong Kong.

Christian Louboutin Scarabee I nail polish review

christian louboutin scarabee I

Do you believe in magic? Well, if not, may I present you with Christian Louboutin’s Scarabee I.

Duochrome colours – metallic shades that shift different colours in different lights – are certainly nothing new in the nail polish world, but that certainly doesn’t stop me feeling a giddy sense of wonder every time I wear one… and Scarabee I is no exception.

Revlon ColorBurst Balm Stains in Romantic, Sweetheart, Lovesick and Rendezvous review

revlon colorburst balm stains

What’s better than finding a beauty product you really truly love? Finding that same beauty product you really truly love at an even cheaper price!

Ever since Clinique’s Chubby Sticks became a total beauty blockbuster, every cosmetics company with half a brain has been inspired to create similarly chunky, lovely lip crayons (hi Sisley Phyto Lip-Twists!). As someone who just can’t get enough of all vaguely-pencil shaped beauty products, I’ve been lapping up these Chubby cousins with open arms – and wallet! – but perhaps the most dupe-tastic have to be Revlon’s ColorBurst Balm Stains.

Dessert of the day: milkshake madness at Burger Circus

burger circus hong kong milkshakes

UPDATE: Amazing chocolate layer cake and candy-blended milkshakes are no longer available at Burger Circus  😦

Hong Kong is currently having a bit of a burger moment. And by “bit of”, I mean crazy stalker-type obsession that really has gone too far. Seriously, at this rate, I’m expecting to see Café De Coral dishing up mini sliders sometime soon.

One of the results of this burger bandwagon is Burger Circus in Central, a cute American-style diner from Black Sheep Restaurants, the folk behind Chom Chom, Carbone and Ho Lee Fook (which just so happen to be three of my favourite restaurants in Hong Kong). Whilst I can take or leave burgers in general, the fact that Burger Circus serves milkshakes, cakes and milkshakes MADE with cake was more than enough to convince my sweet tooth that hey, this burger craze might not be such a bad thing after all.

Yup, we’re talking next-level milkshake making here. There are “regular” flavours, like salted caramel, strawberry and malt. There are “candy shakes”, made with the likes of M&Ms, Reese’s Peanut Butter Cups and Maltesers. And then there are Burger Circus’ crowning glory, milkshakes blended with their in-house cakes and pies; there’s chocolate layer cake, apple pie, cheesecake… I’m writing this at 3am and I’m drooling all over again just thinking about it.
