Christian Louboutin Scarabee II nail polish review

louboutin scarabee II

I love blue nail polish at the best of times… but there’s something about it that just seems so much better in summer. So with the first hints of an autumn breeze swirling through the air here in Hong Kong, I thought I’d better bust out Christian Louboutin Scarabee II before our long hot summer was over for yet an other year (*insert lament about how quickly time flies here*).

Scarabee II is another colour from the limited edition Christian Louboutin Scarabee Collection of gorgeous duochrome polishes inspired by the iridescent shell of an Egyptian scarab beetle – and it might just be the most instantly striking of the three. Or it might just be that I’m an eternal sucker for blue nail polish!

Scarabee II is a beautiful metallic mid-blue that shifts violet and dark teal whenever a camera isn’t looking. It probably has the least obvious colour-shift of the Scarabee trio – but even then, it’s still pretty mesmerising, especially if you’re not a hardened polisholic who’s seen more duochromes than she has sold-out MAC limited edition collections. In fact, Scarabee II is actually very reminiscent of MAC’s Submerged nail polish (from their looooong sold out Alluring Aquatic Collection); if you’re comparing, I’d say Submerged is generally a deeper shade of blue (cue awesome Steps song with creepy video), whilst Scarabee II has more of a lit-from-within luminescence that would be totally at home in Ariel’s underwater kingdom.

I found this polish a little easier to use than Scarabee I, as it was more opaque; unfortunately, I also found it quite prone to bubbling too, so be sure not to use too thick coats and leave plenty of time for the polish to dry between coats. It wore well on me, lasting around a week without chips.

Because the Louboutin Scarabee bottles are SO beautiful, I’d totally advise every lacquerhead to get at least one bottle for their collection… just to, you know, stare and stroke at occasionally whilst purring “My preciousssss” (heaven forbid we actually use the most precious items in our stash). If I didn’t already have MAC Submerged, Scarabee II would totally be my top pick; it’s just such a stunning shade of blue with that violet-teal tint and lit-from-within glow that makes it even more spellbinding. Of course, now I have both, I’m not complaining – you can never have too many blue nail polishes after all!
